Welcome to the Cambridge Archaeological Unit

The Cambridge Archaeological Unit (CAU) have been providing archaeological services across the East of England and beyond for over thirty years. We’ve developed a reputation for excellence and innovation in professional practice and fieldwork techniques. Much of our work is in the development-led sector, working with clients on housing, infrastructure and mineral extraction projects.

We are based in Cambridge and our office includes a highly experienced team of archaeologists and specialists. Working in Cambridgeshire and the surrounding counties, we have built up an excellent knowledge of the region and its landscapes, from urban sites to wetland environments.

The CAU, established in 1990, is part of the University of Cambridge and combines leading development-led archaeological work with research and academic projects.
